Drilling Fluids & Solids Control

Drilling Fluids & Solids Control – Engineered for Performance, Managed for Compliance

Custom water/synthetic-based mud systems with real-time rheology monitoring and closed-loop solids control.

Drilling fluid is the bloodstream of any wellbore. It transports cuttings to the surface, controls formation pressure, stabilizes the hole, and cools the bit. Poor fluid design or inadequate solids control can cost operators days of non-productive time and millions in lost circulation or stuck pipe events. Cooper Contractors engineers and delivers high-performance drilling fluid systems optimized for HPHT, deepwater, and unconventional reservoirs, and we manage solids control with closed-loop systems that minimize waste and disposal costs.

Our approach begins with fluid design. We analyze your well plan, pore pressure gradient, fracture gradient, temperature profile, and lithology. Then we formulate a water-based or synthetic-based mud system tailored to your specific risks — lost circulation zones, reactive shales, salt sections, or HPHT conditions. We do not use off-the-shelf formulas. Every fluid program is custom-built for your well

Key Capabilities

We dry cuttings to less than 5% oil content for disposal or reuse, and we offer zero-discharge options for environmentally sensitive areas.

On location, our mud engineers provide 24/7 rheology monitoring, density checks, filtration control, and chemical treatment adjustments. We track every barrel pumped, every additive used, and every cost incurred — and we share that data with you daily. If parameters drift outside specifications, we notify you within 30 minutes with a corrective action plan.

Why Choose Cooper for Fluids & Solids:

  • Average dilution rate reduction: 25% vs. industry average
  • Cuttings dried to <5% oil content
  • Daily mud reporting with cost tracking per barrel

Questions? You’re covered

Here are some frequently asked questions.

01. Do you provide mud engineering for HPHT wells?

Yes. Our mud engineers have experience in wells with bottomhole temperatures exceeding 500°F and pressures exceeding 30,000 psi. We use thermally stable synthetic-based fluids, specialized weighting agents, and high-temperature rheology modifiers. Each HPHT fluid program is lab-validated before field deployment.

Our cuttings dryer systems consistently achieve less than 5% oil content by weight. This meets or exceeds regulatory requirements for offshore discharge or disposal and minimizes your waste management costs. Third-party verification is available on every job.

Yes. For environmentally sensitive areas (e.g., inland waters, near-shore locations, or certain international basins), we provide closed-loop solids control with no discharge of cuttings or spent fluids. All waste is captured, containerized, and disposed of through certified waste management partners. Full chain-of-custody documentation provided.
